Mason Barrett Bio

    Mason D. Barrett became the new Director of the EEOC Savannah Local Office on August 20, 2007. In this position, Mr. Barrett is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the local office, which has jurisdiction over parts of Georgia and South Carolina.

    Mr. Barrett has a long career in employment law and civil rights. Prior to his appointment as Director of the Savannah Local Office, Mr. Barrett served as a Senior Trial Attorney and acting Enforcement Manager in the EEOC Birmingham District Office. He has held a number of positions in EEO and civil rights with federal agencies and in the private sector. He brings over 20 years of experience in investigating, litigating, and resolving complaints of employment discrimination. Mr. Barrett has a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics from Prairie View A&M University.

    The EEOC Savannah Local Office has jurisdiction over certain counties in Georgia and South Carolina. The Georgia counties are: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Candler, Chatham, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glynn, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jenkins, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Montgomery, Pierce, Screven, Tattnall, Telfair, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Ware, Wayne and Wheeler. The South Carolina counties are: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton, Jasper, and Williamsburg.

    The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit discrimination in the workplace based on race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability and retaliation. It also provides outreach and training to increase awareness of and compliance with federal EEO laws.
